Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant Gets a Makeover
Knott's Berry Farm is a popular Southern California amusement park featuring 40 rides such as roller coasters and water rides with an American Frontier theme. This sprawling theme park grew to what it is now from a small fruit stand back in the 1920's. Back then, the road-side berry stand was owned by Walter Knott and stood along CA State Route 39. He sold fresh berries, preserves, jams and pies. By the 1940s, the property had a few shops, light entertainment and a five-table lunchroom where Mrs Knott's made her famous fried chicken & homemade jams and pies to attract and greet visitors. That diner is now known as Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant and is a busy, full-fledged and beloved restaurant.
Over time, the restaurant's decor had become drab and outdated, so Lara Hanneman, Knott's creative director, set out to revamp the look and feel of the place, and contacted Artificial Plants Unlimited about helping out with the project. She wanted the restaurant to have an updated, modern feel, but still maintain the iconic Wild West style of the theme park.
Custom Design Specifications
After some back and forth, we all decided that using faux succulent wall decor made with our hyper-realistic faux succulents was the way to go. Framed succulents were the perfect way to add an updated, contemporary look, but still keep with the earthy, rustic and wild west theme of the restaurant. These faux succulent wall decor pieces are huge and filled with gorgeous succulents in various shapes, colors and sizes. The pop of bright greenery, earth-tone purples and high-interest texture looks great against the wood paneled walls and modern-ranch style furnishings.
Each of the faux succulent wall decor pieces are beautifully encased in a large faux wood frames made of commercial grade fiberglass. Collectively, the tough fiberglass frames and the lovely faux succulents make for impressive, highly durable, visually enchanting and maintenance-free organic inspired works of art. Another part of Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant's redesign was to improve and enhance the landscaping at the front entrance. We recommended going with commercial-grade fiberglass planters with a wood look. Our sister company, Planters Unlimited, is a planter manufacturer, and they supplied several large planters from their Madera collection. This collection features a rustic wood grain finish, so they kept with the overall theme of the Old West perfectly. Plus, with clean lines and sharp corners, the look of these planters successfully combined both the modern and rustic aspect the redesign aimed for.
